Eight years ago, we officially became a city. Not just in name, but in spirit, vision, and community. Since then, we’ve grown into a place that welcomes visitors with open spaces, rich culture, and experiences you won’t find anywhere else in Georgia. This May, as we celebrate our eighth anniversary and kick off National Travel and Tourism Week, we’re inviting everyone to explore everything that makes our city special.
We’ve come a long way, and we’re just getting started. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or looking for your next favorite place to unwind, we’ve got something waiting for you.
Our Story, Eight Years Strong
On May 1, 2017, we took the leap and shaped a future that reflected our own values, culture, and goals. Becoming a city meant we could take more ownership of our direction, and more pride in the stories we tell.
Over the past eight years, we’ve done more than grow. We’ve built something lasting. From community-driven festivals to wide-open parks, we’ve made space for connection, creativity, and celebration. Every year, more travelers discover what we’ve known all along: our city is a place where memories are made.
We’ve Got Room to Breathe
What makes our city stand out isn’t just where we are, it’s how we feel when you’re here. We’re close enough to Atlanta for convenience, but far enough to offer peace, greenery, and a slower pace when you need it most.
We’ve protected what matters. Our parks and outdoor spaces aren’t just amenities, they’re a way of life. Places like Cedar Grove Park and Cliftondale Park aren’t hidden gems; they’re beloved by our community and perfect for visitors who want to stretch their legs, let the kids play, or just sit and listen to the birds.
Looking for more space? Welcome All Park gives families and groups room to gather, celebrate, and connect. Bring your grill, your playlist, or just a blanket and a book. However you like to unwind, there’s a place for it here.
A Culture That Runs Deep
We don’t create culture to impress people,we share it because it’s who we are. Every mural, every performance, and every bite of food tells a story passed down through generations.
Throughout the year, you’ll find our streets alive with music, markets, and celebrations. From our Juneteenth gatherings to seasonal festivals, we open up our city and invite everyone in. Whether you’re dancing at a block party or browsing handmade art, it all starts with real people and real joy.
Step inside one of our local galleries, and you’ll see work that reflects our roots and reimagines our future. Stop by a pop-up event, and you’ll meet artists who speak with color, sound, and soul. We’re not a city that waits for creativity to happen; we make it part of the everyday.
There’s Always Something Happening Here
Our cultural calendar never really slows down. In spring, outdoor art exhibits and live performances pop up across the city. Visitors don’t just watch, they join in, whether it’s a spoken-word night or a community mural project.
By summer, the vibe turns up. We’re out at Wolf Creek Amphitheater, dancing under the stars, sharing food, and making memories. Fall brings it indoors with local theater, handcrafted holiday markets, and live music that carries us through the season.
People often tell us they came expecting a weekend trip and left with something deeper, a connection, a memory, a rhythm they didn’t expect. That’s exactly what we hope to give.
Our Food Tells the Whole Story
We take food seriously around here. Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s tradition. When you visit one of our local restaurants or food trucks, you’re stepping into someone’s passion. Every dish is prepared with intention, every flavor earned.
If you’re craving soul food, you’ll find it made the way it should be,slow-cooked, seasoned right, and served with pride. We’ve got barbecue that pulls you in from the parking lot, fried fish that hits the spot, and cornbread that tastes like someone’s grandmother made it just for you.
But we’re not one note. Our culinary scene includes bold Caribbean dishes, Cajun flavors, and sweet treats you’ll dream about later. The best part? These spots aren’t tourist traps, they’re community staples. And when you walk in, you’re family.
National Travel and Tourism Week Starts Here
Every year, National Travel and Tourism Week gives us the chance to celebrate what travel brings to our communities. This year, it feels even more meaningful. Our eighth anniversary falls just as we’re highlighting the people and places that make tourism matter.
We’re proud to be part of that story. Tourism doesn’t just bring visitors to town; it supports our local businesses, fills our events, and helps our story reach more people. When someone comes here for a reunion, a hike, or a concert, they’re contributing to something bigger than themselves.
Travel and Tourism Week is our chance to open the doors even wider. We hope you’ll come walk through them.
Ways to Explore While You Celebrate

Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, this month is the perfect time to reconnect with our city or discover it for the first time.
Make It a Family Day
Planning a day out with the family? We’ve got you covered. Pack lunch and spend the afternoon at Welcome All Park, where the kids can play and grown-ups can relax under shady trees. Or take a nature walk through Cedar Grove Park, where the pace slows down and the air feels a little fresher.
If you’re lucky enough to be in town during a festival weekend, join us for face painting, food vendors, and live performances that make the whole city feel like a block party.
Explore Local Spots You Haven’t Tried Yet
Even locals find new things to love here. We’re always excited to introduce travelers to our favorite spots, local boutiques, food trucks, dessert shops, and community-run events that surprise and delight.
Take a break from the routine. Try a new restaurant, browse handmade crafts at a weekend market, or strike up a conversation with a shop owner who’s happy to share their story.
Turn It Into a Weekend
If you’ve only ever passed through, make this the year you stay a little longer. We’re the perfect staycation or weekend escape. Start your Saturday with brunch and a walk through one of our green spaces. Spend the afternoon at a local event, and wrap up your evening with live music or a quiet dinner somewhere new.
The best part? You won’t need a detailed itinerary. Just show up, ask around, and let the day take shape.
There’s Something to Do Every Season
While May gives us the spotlight, there’s never a wrong time to visit. We plan events, maintain our parks, and support our local businesses year-round, because we want every experience here to feel like the best part of your week.
Spring
This is when we bloom. You’ll see flowers in our parks, fresh flavors in our food, and people out and about. Our calendar fills up fast with events, concerts, and community gatherings that make every weekend feel like a celebration.
Summer
The energy rises with the temperature. Long days mean more time to explore, and you’ll find us at splash pads, food festivals, and open-air markets. It’s a season full of music, movement, and memories.
Fall
The colors change, but the spirit stays strong. Cool mornings are perfect for walking trails, and our fall events bring families out for fun, food, and togetherness. We get cozy, but never quiet.
Winter
When the weather cools, we shift into reflection and joy. Holiday markets, seasonal performances, and comfort food bring warmth even when the air is crisp. It’s slower, softer, and just as special.
Itineraries for Every Kind of Traveler
Whether you’re here for a quick visit or a full weekend, there’s no shortage of ways to explore, eat, and connect while you’re with us.
One Day to Explore
If you’re just passing through or stopping by for the day, you can still soak in the local flavor and energy. Start with a spot that feels like a neighborhood favorite, the kind where the coffee is strong and the service comes with a smile. Spend your morning in the park, breathing in fresh air or following a shaded trail.
Around lunchtime, follow the sound of laughter and music to a local pop-up or food truck stop. End your day somewhere relaxed, with a plate that makes you feel at home and, if the timing’s right, a live performance that gives you something to remember.
Making It a Weekend
Staying for two days opens up even more possibilities. You’ll have time to slow down, mix in a little exploration, and take part in local culture. Spend your first day outdoors, maybe a trail walk in the morning, followed by a soul food lunch and an afternoon art stroll.
At night, step into one of our small venues or community events. On your second day, take it easy. Brunch, a bit of shopping, maybe a quiet museum visit, and a sunset meal are all on the table. The vibe here is flexible, so you can do a little or a lot.
Bringing the Family
Families will feel right at home here. Our green spaces are wide and welcoming, our events are designed with everyone in mind, and our dining spots are casual, accommodating, and full of heart. Kids have space to roam while adults get a breather. There’s no need to overplan. Just show up, see what’s happening, and join in. We’re a place that knows how to keep things simple and joyful for everyone.
No matter how you plan your trip, we’re here to make it easy, and to make sure you leave feeling like you’ve experienced more than just a city. You’ve experienced a community.
Visiting for the First Time? Here’s What to Know
We’re easy to find, easy to get around, and even easier to love. Whether you’re here for a day trip or a weekend stay, we want your experience to feel as smooth as it is memorable.
We’re just southwest of Atlanta, so it’s a quick drive whether you’re coming from the city or the airport. Once you’re here, you’ll find parking is easy and most of what you need is within reach.
Not sure what to do? Ask us. Seriously. Stop someone at a market, a vendor booth, or a trailhead. We’ll point you toward the best bites, the most peaceful trails, and the places we take our own families when we want to slow down.
Why Eight Years Matter
We know eight years might not seem like much in the life of a city. But for us, it means everything. It’s eight years of shaping our story. Eight years of welcoming new faces and strengthening old ties. Eight years of building a place that’s not just livable, but visitable.
We’re proud of what we’ve become, but we’re even more excited about where we’re going. This celebration isn’t just about the past. It’s about the next chapter, and the people who’ll help write it.
Now that you’ve gotten a glimpse of who we are, we’d love for you to experience it all firsthand. From outdoor escapes and local eats to live music and weekend festivals, there’s something here for every kind of traveler.
